Pantone Color of the Year: Ultra Violet Art Journal…

What do you think of the Pantone color of the year, Ultra Violet? I took over the Tombow account and shared 2 crystal inspired art journal pages using Ultra Violet as my main color!  This color reminds me of crystals and galaxies, so on these pages I used a crystal theme.

In the video below you can see how I use Ultra Violet to create crystals! The Dual Brush Pen equivalent to Ultra Violet is 606-violet which I used in combination with a couple of other colors. I started by sketching out diamonds onto the mage with a MONO J pencil, and then outlined them with the Dual Brush Pens, brushing them with water to achieve a watercolor effect.

Okay, in my 2nd art journal page, I used the Blending Palette with Dual Brush Pens to create a splash effect background.
Watch the video to see the art journal page come together! The Tombow  Irojiten Colored Pencil equivalent to Ultra Violet is  V-9 and I’m using it with the Dual Brush Pens here!
.
To create this page, start by sketching out some crystals using the irojiten pencil. Next, Scribble some Dual Brush Pen ink onto a blending palette, mist it with water and smear it over top of the page. The colored pencil shows through the ink for a cool effect! Finish off the page with a quote and some doodles using a Fudenosuke brush pen!
That’s it!

So, my challenge to you: use Ultra Violet in your projects! Purple isn’t a color I would normally go for, but I do love how these pages turned out.

Easy Colored Pencil Hedgehog Art

This year, 2018, is the 30th anniversary of the Irojiten Color Dictionaries, Vol 1 was introduced in April of 1988! wow.

Yesterday I took over the Tombow USA instagram account, showing how to use Irojiten colored pencils to color in this cute little Hedgehog doodle, and I wanted to share my tips for working with these colored pencils here!

I like to start with the lighter colors and then layer the colors for more depth and variation as I go. I colored the hedgie belly with a light cream color and then layered on a bit of pink to give him rosy cheeks.

Next I just started adding more and more color to the sketch. For the blue of the cloche, I started out really light, but then layered the pencil a bit more heavily around the edges to darken it, leaving the center pretty light.

For the bottom of the cloche, I lightly colored in the wood, and then used a darker brown to draw the woodgrain pattern on top with a bit of pressure so that it’s embossed into the paper.

I used to shy away from colored pencils because I always had trouble blending them, and the white of the paper would show through no matter what.

I’ve since learned a few tricks. The first being what I said above- work in light layers so that wax doesn’t build up.

My second tip is to use Tombow’s Colorless Blender to blend the pencils.  You can use the Colorless Blender over top of the pencils, just like you would use it with Dual Brush Pens. The pencils can stain the tip of the Colorless Blender a little bit, but just rub it off onto a piece of paper and the ink still comes out clear even if it’s stained.

The blending marker helps to “burnish” the pencil, so that the lead is worked into the paper more and less of the white shows. yay!

It’s @studio.katie one last time today! Swipe to see a video of how I blended the colors! My best tip for blending the Irojiten Colored Pencils is to use the Dual Brush Pen Colorless Blender over the top of them, just like you would use it with Dual Brush Pens. The pencils will stain the tip of the Colorless Blender a little bit, but just rub it off onto a piece of paper and the ink still comes out clear even if it’s stained. . After I finished my little hedgie doodle, I mounted it to a piece of paper and turned it into a cute little card for Spring! That’s it from me today. How to Plan Crafts in your Planner

Hello everyone, Today I wanted to show y’all how I use my Happy Planner as a craft planner to organize and plan different crafts  projects!

If you want to make along with me today, grab your favorite planner, and some Tombow TwinTones and let’s get started:

How to use a Planner for your Crafts! by @studio.katie

My first tip is to use the planner how it works for you, not necessarily how it’s set up. Rather than using the days of the week to plan my daily schedule, I write in notes and lists regarding my current projects using the TwinTone markers. I love the extra fine tip (0.3 mm!!) for writing small supply lists!

The TwinTone markers come in 2 different sets with a total of 24 colors, which is super handy for color coding your projects!

Organize your craft projects in your planner with @studio.katie

My next tip: include sketches! I have added a bunch of graph paper into my planner that I can use to make larger notes and sketches on using the TwinTone markers. The Happy Planner sells graph paper that easily fits into the planners, so that made it easy for me, but you could also add graph paper into ring bound binders without too much trouble.

The TwinTone markers have a water-based ink that doesn’t bleed through the paper, meaning that I can use both sides of the graph paper!

When you’re planning out a project, remember to include what supplies you’ll need, whether you’ll need to print out photos or patterns, and reminders to take photos of the finished project!

So, That’s it from me! How do you organize your projects? What planner do you use?
