Product Review: Totally Tiffany Big Canvas Sticker Binder

I was recently going through my sticker stash and realized that it really needed some decluttering and organizing. So when it was time to choose a new Totally Tiffany product to review as a part of their Blogger Troop I knew I wanted something to help with my stickers.

After chatting with the folks at Totally Tiffany a bit, I decided to go with the Canvas Sticker Binder.

They also sent me to this video, where Tiffany shows a few different options for organizing stickers & gives some really good tips!

According to FTC regulations, I must disclose to you that I did receive free product in exchange for this post, however all opinions are my own. šŸ™‚

First let me tell you a little bit about this product (blurb taken from the Totally Tiffany website):

Do you have a lot of stickers?Ā  Have you been looking for the best way to keep them organized?Ā  This Big Canvas Sticker Travel Binder could be the solution you’re looking for.

We’ve put together a Craft Binder, and loaded it with the storage pages that are best for your sticker collection.Ā  Organize by theme, type, or color, and you’ll be able to find exactly what you need in seconds.Ā  No more digging and searching!Ā  When it’s time to head to a crop, a class, or your work table, the Craft Binder is ready to travel.Ā  In addition to your organized stickers, there’s a place for tools, paper, a trimmer, pens – all the supplies you need in one zip-it-up-and-go tote!”

What you get:

  • 1Ā Craft Binder – choose your color (includes 1 spinder, 1 shoulder strap, and sample pack of storage pages)
  • 10Ā Perfect SixĀ pages (4″ x 6″ pockets)
  • 10Ā Vertical DoubleĀ pages (6″ x 12″ pockets)
  • 10Ā Fantastic FiveĀ pages (5″ x 7″ pockets)

This Big Canvas Sticker Binder comes with 1 spinder (3-ring binder section), but it can hold up to 2- 3.Ā

In the past I’ve stored my stickers in a large flat wicker basket. It certainly works & keeps them all together. I can flip through them, but it’s also a bit hard to find specific stickers if I’m looking for them.

This week I pulled them all out of the wicker basket, and organized them into themes, for example: Travel stickers, planner stickers, stickers from Stickii Club, etc.

In my package I received a variety Totally Tiffany storage pages, which is good, depending on what type of stickers you have, you may want different pocket sizes! My favorites are the Vertical Double storage pockets.

I also received 5 tabbed dividers! I haven’t labeled them yet, as I want to make sure I like the categories I’ve organized my stickers into first, but I’ll be making some labels for them soon.

The left side of the binder also features storage pockets & elastic for tools & markers. I have a art retreat coming up this Autumn & I love that I could take this binder with me & have it hold so much.

So far I’m really liking this binder!! The canvas material feels really sturdy and I imagine it’s going to hold up really well.

To learn more about Totally-Tiffany and to get more tips on organizing your craft supplies, make sure you follow them on facebook.

You can find the Big Canvas Sticker Binder available for purchase here.

DIY Moon Phase Planner Spread

Hey guys! This is a project I originally shared on Tombow’s instagram account, but as you know I’m a huge space nerd, so I wanted to share it here too.

Today I’mĀ  showing you how to make a Lunar Calendar Spread in your bullet journal/planner!

Supplies:

  • Planner or Journal. For my planner this year, I’m using a Bloom Daily Planners Dot Journaling Planner. I added one of my Galaxy Girl stickers to the cover to customize it , but I love the marble background too.
  • Tombow Twin Tones
  • Tombow 1500 Colored Pencils
  • Ruler

Ste one: Use a ruler & Twin Tone markers to draw out 2 sections at the bottom of your page, and write each month name with 6 on each side.

The bullet tip of the Twin Tone is fantastic for monoline lettering (a single line, not a brush pen) like this. Draw 4 circles for each month, and fill them in according to the lunar calendar. Next Using a pink Twin Tone, I wrote out the dates for each of the moon phases above the circles.

It’s @studio.katie back to show you how to add a lunar calendar in your @bloomdailyplanners planner. First step: Use a ruler and @tombowusa TwinTone markers to draw out 2 sections at the bottom of your page, and write each month. The TwinTone’s tips are fantastic for monoline lettering –you can choose between a broad and extra-fine on either side. Draw 4 circles for each month, and fill them in according to the lunar calendar. Using a pink TwinTone, I wrote out the dates for each of the moon phases.⁣ .⁣ Did you know we have a lunar eclipse this month? There’s a ā€œSuper Blood Wolf Moon Eclipseā€ on the 20th, so you can add that to your calendar too!.In my next post I’ll show you how to add a moon sketch to the top of the page! -@studio.katie #tombow #tombowusa #tombow2018dt⁣ ā£šŸ’• #bulletjournal #bulletjournaladdict #bulletjournaljunkies #bulletjournalcommunity #bulletjournaladdicts #bulletjournaling #bujo #bujojunkies #bujoinspire #bujoaddict #bujocommunity #bujolove #bulletjournallove

Step two: Now let’s finish decorating the spread.

Trace a circle onto the top of the page, and lightly color it in with a light pink 1500 Colored Pencil. The trick to colored pencils is to color in light layers, so keep adding colors but not adding to much pressure as you work. Using a darker shade of pink, add in the craters of the moon. You can also pull up an image of the moon on your computer to use as a reference.

Step three:

Painting

Maple Valley Art Walk

Hey friends! So this post is just a bit of an update about something exciting with the more fine art related portion of my work.

Back in September last year I submitted my art to an art walk and got in! This was my first ever “art show”, so it was really neat. The Maple Valley Art Walk happens every 2 months, so my art was at the Vintage Vino in November, and here at The Nutty Squirrel for the next 2 months.

This month though was extra exciting because I submitted a few more pieces and have the whole of The Nutty Squirrel Gelato featuring just my oil paintings!

As an emerging artist, I’m pretty proud of this! I’m excited to see how my art will continue to grow in 2019. I’ve really enjoyed working more with oil paints lately!

You can see all of my paintings in my gallery here.

DIY Stenciled Wrapping Paper

(This post is sponsored by DecoArt, however all opinions are my own. I only promote products I love and use, and really enjoyed using DecoArt’s products for this tutorial.)

Hey friends! So, a fun fact: I’ve never done an advent calendar before. This year I really wanted to do one, and I also decided to create my own wrapping paper to have all 12 of the gifts be fun and matching!

I partnered with DecoArt to make this tutorial and show you how I’ve made my own DIY Stenciled Wrapping Paper! So let’s get to it:

Supplies:

  • Roll of Kraft Paper
  • DecoArt Polka Dot Pop Stencil
  • DecoArt Value Kraft Stencils: Believe, Joy, & Dashing Snow
  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paints: I used True Red, Carousel Pink, Cotton Candy, Sour Apple, Light Buttermilk & Lamp (Ebony) Black.
  • Paint Brush, Stencil Brush, and/or Sponge Dabber.
  • Painter’s Tape

I used Kraft colored paper for my DIY Stenciled Wrapping Paper because it’s 1. Cheap, and 2. easy to customize, but obviously you can start with any colored paper roll you wish.

Stenciling your gift wrap is so easy. I’ll be sharing some of my tips and ideas for putting together a cohesive gift wrap theme!

Step one:

An easy way to start your gift wrap is to stencil on a first layer. Use a stencil brush to fill in the polka dot pop stencil.

You can also hold down the edges of the stencil with painters tape so that it doesn’t move on you while you’re working.

Step two:

Now we’ll be layering on more designs!

I used a small paintbrush to brush on dashes around each polka dot on a darker pink and added some smaller white polka dots. Once that is dry, it’s time for one more layer. I placed the snowflake stencil on top and brushed True Red acrylic paint through that.

Step three:

Another easy background is to do some abstract brush strokes onto your kraft paper. Squirt a little bit of each color onto a palette & use a 1″ paint brush to add strokes of paint in lines across the paper.

Step four:

And once your brushstrokes are dry, you can layer another design over top like I did with the ornament stencil below.

You can keep your backgrounds pretty simple, such as just painting stripes onto the paper, or go more detailed. For the gifts below I painted stripes, and once the gifts were wrapped, I used a couple of DecoArt stencils on the top of each present to further customize it.

To number my advent calendar, I used a small paintbrush and Americana Acrylic paint to number 12 black tags and attached them to each gift.

You can also wrap the gifts and twine, add tassels & candy canes for more festivity!

My best tips to make your own DIY Stenciled Gift Wrap:

  • Tape down your stencil or use a sticky vinyl stencil.
  • Use either a stencil brush or a sponge dauber.
  • Don’t use too much paint, this is what causes your stencil to bleed. Instead, squirt a small amount of paint onto a palette, dip your brush/sponge into it, then pounce it a few times on a piece of scrap paper to get excess paint off before going over your stencil.

As I said, I made these as my own advent calendar, but now I think I’ll do some more stenciled gift wrap to use on my friends gifts. I love that everything from the gift to the wrapping paper is handmade!

I was interviewed for a podcast!

Hey everyone, guess what? I was interviewed on a podcast! As an introvert, that’s totally scary, but I did it!

Listen to artist Katie Smith as she talks about her work and why artists deserve to get paid on the Crafty Ass Female Podcast!

The ladies of the Crafty Ass Female Podcast asked me to be a guest to talk about the bunch of different things it has taken to get Studio Katie to where it is today,Ā and myĀ episode is now live! YAY!

Amanda, Kristin, and I discuss being artistic at a young age, starting my blog 9 years ago, how the ā€˜feel’ of blogging has changed, my early influences, design teams I’ve been on, why having an online-based business is best for me,Ā and more!Ā We also get realĀ in their Patreon exclusive ā€˜After Chatter’ show,Ā where you can sign up to watch an exclusive video (where you also get to see a peek of my studio, and the amazing Bob Ross shirt I’m wearing) of us three chat it up about how I price my work, what I thought I’d being doing if not managing Studio Katie, and working with brands on social media.

I was definitely nervous as we were recording the podcast, because I hate talking on the phone/video, and even in person I don’t really say much-Ā I speak through my art, you know? But I was also surprised at how much I did talk in this recording. Kristin and Amanda are amazing, and has some fantastic questions.

Head over toĀ craftyassfemale.comĀ for more information and to listen to my interview.

I’ve also been on one other podcast- the How She Creates podcast! You can find out more about that here.

Okay, let’s open up the box:

Unboxing Tombow USA's July 2018 VIP Box - @studiokatie blog

What I love about Tombow’s VIP (Very Inspirational Products) box is that you can see what you’re buying before purchasing it (I’m not a huge fan of surprises. lol).

Included in the July box:

  • The Desktop & Carry Marker Case

This case is a great improvement on their previous marker stand. The new case holds up to 108 Dual Brush Pens and other writing instruments. (So you can also store a handful of your go-to pencils or Fudenosukes in it as well.Ā  The accordion style design allows you lots of versatility when deciding how to display it on your desk, and the snap on lid is perfect for when you’re on-the-go.

  • The Custom Dual Brush Pen 10-pack

This 10-pack includes colors from the 96-set of Dual Brush Pens, so these are not new colors, this is just a new assortment. So if you already have the 96 pack, you may not NEED this extra set, but it’s a fun bonus for sure! It’s a gorgeous set! It includes some of Tombow’s most popular colors, it does not include a Colorless Blender Pen though.

  • The new XL Blending Palette

A blending palette sized at 8×10″? Yes please! This is great for a larger surface area for blending. The back includes a color chart and blending tips.

This VIP box is a $61.97 value.

That’s incredible, y’all. I got this box as a part of the Tombow design team, but if I hadn’t, I would be buying this for sure.

I’m excited about both the Limited Edition Dual Brush Pen 10-pack and the XL Blending Palette, but I’m extra in love with the new marker case. I got a sneak peak of it back in January and have been waiting for it since then!! It has an accordion design, so it will fold out on to your desk, or you can fold it up and snap the lid on to take it on the go.

How to Plan Crafts in your Planner

*This post contains affiliate links. Ā which help pay for this site. That being said, I never promote anything I don’t love! If you purchase Ā using them, I might get a small commission at no additional cost to you.

Hello everyone, Today I wanted to show y’all how I use my Happy Planner as a craft planner to organize and plan different craftsĀ  projects!

If you want to make along with me today, grab your favorite planner, and some Tombow TwinTones and let’s get started:

How to use a Planner for your Crafts! by @studio.katie

My first tip is to use the planner how it works for you, not necessarily how it’s set up. Rather than using the days of the week to plan my daily schedule, I write in notes and lists regarding my current projects using the TwinTone markers. I love the extra fine tip (0.3 mm!!) for writing small supply lists!

The TwinTone markers come in 2 different sets with a total of 24 colors, which is super handy for color coding your projects!

Organize your craft projects in your planner with @studio.katie

My next tip: include sketches! I have added a bunch of graph paper into my planner that I can use to make larger notes and sketches on using the TwinTone markers. The Happy Planner sells graph paper that easily fits into the planners, so that made it easy for me, but you could also add graph paper into ring bound binders without too much trouble.

The TwinTone markers have a water-based ink that doesn’t bleed through the paper, meaning that I can use both sides of the graph paper!

Organize your craft projects in your planner with @studio.katie

Organize your craft projects in your planner with @studio.katie

When you’re planning out a project, remember to include what supplies you’ll need, whether you’ll need to print out photos or patterns, and reminders to take photos of the finished project!

So,Ā That’s it from me! How do you organize your projects? What planner do you use?

Art Journals

An Earth Element Art Journal Collab

Hey friends, today I have a completed journal to share with you! This one is a collaboration journal. My friend Sarah came up with the idea to create 4 journals based on elements, so Sarah, Vanessa, Jaimee, and I each created a journal focusing on a particular element: Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

My journal is the Earth journal, so I started it and then mailed it off and letting the other project members add to it as well. So the pages below are made from 4 different artists!

When I was binding my journal I used a lot of mixed papers: book pages, magazine images, gelli prints, and transparencies, so that we would have a variety of surfaces to work on.

We also have an article published in Issue 2 of Brush Mag talking all about this collaboration.

Art Journals

My Book of Me

My friend Kristin has a released a new online workshop for 2018 called the Book of Me. It’s all about creating a book and filing it with your creative stories and documenting your life.

I was crazy busy in January with traveling and the Tombow Design Team summit, so I was late starting on this project, but I’ve finally gotten a chance to make a new journal/mini album for it and I wanted to share with y’all!

Kristin was kind enough to send me a little package with some stickers and ephemera for the course and so I added some to the back of the cover.

My first page is actually a card my Sister gave me and I absolutely loved it.

A list page to document who this book is about. (me.)

So that’s it so far. I’ve filled the book up with a variety of patterned papers that I loved. Mostly pinks, but there are other colors in there too. šŸ™‚

I’m excited to continue using this book throughout the year. You can learn more about Kristin’s Book of Me workshop here.
