Caprock Canyons Mini Album

Today’s challenge at Document Life Workshop is to “Use a past challenge” from the DLW blog. I decided to go with the Heat Embossing challenge Megan shared a while back.
I used an embossing pen to write out my title by hand and then pour embossing powder over that and heat it up. For the ombre look on the top of the cover, I rubbed a bit of red gelato along the edge and then worked my way down with a wet brush.

I haven’t mastered the heat gun yet, as you can see my embossing isn’t completely smooth. I don’t want to burn or warp the paper so I try not to get too close. Any tips would be appreciated! 🙂

Here’s a look at all my pages. I used papers from Echo Parks camping line and papers from Studio Calico Thataway collection. I think the two go really well together, I love the colors.

If you get a chance hop over to the Document Life Workshop blog to see what challenges the other design team members decided to do.

Christmas Music- Document Life Workshop

This weeks challenge at Document Life Workshop is to use gift wrap. I grabbed some cute blue Christmas wrapping paper that I’m using to wrap gifts, and fussy cut out circles to use on my art journal page.
For the background, I layered matte medium over stencils and smeared blue and silver gelatos over top of that. I added music notes with a black Posca marker and dots with glitter glue.

I’m also linking this to Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog. I love their challenges.

Be sure to see what the other Document Life Workshop Creative Team members created with gift wrap. You’re sure to be inspired. 🙂

Has your radio stations started playing Christmas music yet? Ours started playing holiday songs about a week before Thanksgiving, but I’ve been listening to Christmas music on my phone for even longer. I love Christmas music- it’s so happy!
What’s your favorite Christmas song? Mine’s White Christmas. (The Bing Crosby version.)

Document Life Workshop December Sketch

This months sketch at Document Life Workshop is an interesting one. You can see it here. I think it is a really fun sketch, but I honestly had trouble deciding what I would do for the circles. I didn’t want to cut my photos into a shape so I did a bit of brainstorming to figure out how I was going to make the sketch work for me.
I decided it would be easier for me if I turned the circles into something else, so I cut out squares of patterned paper and placed them where the circles are in the sketch.
The patterned papers (except for the woodgrain) are by Dear Lizzy, I believe, The house paper was perfect for my Community Powered Revitalization (C.P.R.) pictures. I also love the clipboard that I fussycut out of patterned paper.

I’d love to see your layouts if you use the sketch as well! You can see pages by the other design team members on the Document Life Workshop blog here.

She was an Artist Journal Page + Document Life…

The challenges at Document Life Workshop are always inspiring and this weeks challenge at Document Life Workshop is to get inspired by a magazine cover. I was inspired by the black and white cover of I Heart Paper. I love how the magazine cover has a fun chalkboard feel and I wanted that on my page as well.

Curious about how I made the girl? Well, I certainly didn’t cut her out by hand, I don’t have the patience for that. 😉 I drew her on paper and then scanned her into my Brother ScanNCut. I cut her out from black cardstock and placed her over the mixed media background I did.

For the background, I applied matte medium through stencils directly onto my journal page. Once that was dry I lightly rubbed silver, gold and metallic mint Gelatos over top of it for a bit of color.

If you get a chance, go see what magazine covers the other members of Document Life Workshop were inspired by!

Currently Art Journal- Document Life Workshop

The challenge today at Document Life Workshop is to “Use Autumn Colors” which is super easy for me, because I love Autumn. It’s definitely my favorite season.

I used the tag I made a few days ago because it’s full of Autumn colors. I needed something for the background of my journal page though so I got out my gelli plate and went to town. I gelli printed multiple pages from an old old encyclopedia as well as a few tags. (I didn’t use those tags on this page but I’, sharing a picture of them below.)

For my journaling I used a Currently card by Rukristin, it makes a nice easy way to journal about what you’re currently doing/feeling. I added a strip of washi tape to the top to make a little pull tab, and I used my Autumn tag to make a little pocket to slide it behind.

Here are the tags I gelli printed when I was also printing my background for my art journal page. I cutmost of the stencils I used on my new Brother ScanNCut. I love that machine! I tried to stick with Autumn-y colors and I like how they turned out. 🙂

If you haven’t already, You should hop over to the Document Life Workshop blog to see the other takes on today’s Autumn challenge!

Prairie Dogs Layout- Document Life Workshop

Today I’m sharing a scrapbook layout made using the November sketch at Document Life Workshop. I love this sketch because it works so great to use multiple photos! They’re small, but I like them that way. You could always make them bigger photos and do a 2 page layout.

I used my new Brother Scan N Cut to cut out the flowers and the titles for this layout. I doodled the flowers onto paper then scanned them and cut them out of dark grey paper and backed them with patterned paper. The title is actually my hand writing that I scanned in and cut out.

Document Life Workshop- Cute ScareCrows

I made this layout for today’s challenge at Document Life Workshop, which is to document something you’ve made. I’m an artist- I make a ton of things, so I had to choose what it was I wanted to scrap about. I decided to make a layout about the scarecrows Taylor and I made this year.
We built a couple of cute scare crows. I told her they had to be cute because I hate creepy scarecrows.
If you want to build your own scare crows, I posted a tutorial for them. Get the Scarecrow DIY here- part 1, part 2.

I used some of the Halloween supplies I won from American Crafts on this layout. They worked perfectly. 🙂
The little leaf stamps are by Paper Wings Productions and to finish off my page I added a row of bling by Queen and Co.

Document Life Workshop-Inspired by a Product Line

Today’s challenge at Document Life Workshop is to Get Inspired by a Product Line. I was inspired by Dear Lizzy’s 5th and Frolic line. I just got the 12×12 paper pad and I love the colors. I cut up the polaroid patterned paper and used it on this art journal page.

After adhering down the polaroids I painted gesso around them, added my journaling and then added a bunch of old pink butterfly stickers. I don’t even know where those came from..

Autumn Art Journal Pages

Over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog they had a challenge to use on of Tammy Tutterow’s tutorials or projects for inspiration. After browsing through her tutorial archives (You should check them out here, So many ideas!) I decided to try this tutorial for Stencil Transfers.
I used 2 stencils with Tammy’s technique on this page, this Camera stencil and a triangle stencil by Frog Dog Studio I used the technique on both the background and the tag.

My second Autumn-y journal page is all about how much I love pumpkin flavored goodies. It was inspired by the Get Transparent challenge on Document Life Workshop for the “Use a Past Challenge” Challenge.
I layered a couple pieces of vellum over my patterned paper for a transparent look, then I played with some alcohol inks. I just did little drops of color and than I also painted on a little girl using purple ink. Her mouth ended up sort of blob-y but otherwise I like her. 🙂

“The Adventures of Kracko” Mini Album

I have been reading through the ebook Inspiration Vacation by Allie and Megan from Document Life Workshop lately and I was inspired to create a mini album for our lobster, Kracko.
Why do we have a stuffed lobster? He’s our travel mascot, you know, like “The Traveling Gnome”. Only, we have a traveling lobster named Kracko. Whenever we go on trips we take Kracko a long and take photos of him. He even has his own facebook fan page.

Inspiration Vacation has lots of ideas, including 12 x 12 pages, photo books, etc. But my favorites are the mini books Megan and Allie share! I love creating mini albums.

I used pictures from multiple trips, however I also added extra pages and left blank pages so that I can continue adding pictures as we take more trips. Since there was only 8 pages in the mini album to begin with, I love that it’s ring bound and I can add in extra pages.
Here’s a peek at the inside.

I highly recommend Inspiration Vacation if you like to scrapbook or you just need a bit of inspiration for documenting a vacation!
