Scrapbook Summer- Magazine Cutouts

I guest posted on Cath’s blog the other day with this neat Scrapbooking technique, and I just thought I would share it here too!
When I think of cutting things out of a magazine, I usually think of making collages- However you can also use magazine cutouts as scrapbook embellishments!
Supplies:
Paper, Picture, Magazine, Misc Embellishments
1. Find a cute page in a magazine that you think would go with your scrapbook layout- I found a page full of these AH-mazing cameras (I think it was in an Urban Outfitters catalog)
Although it doesn’t have to be shapes- You could trying cutting out different words you like. 😉
2. Cut out the shapes/words you want.
and use them in place of scrapbook stickers!
I didn’t really have any scrapbooking embellishments that I thought just really went with this page, But these cameras are perfect!
What do you think?  Is this a technique you use?

Scrapbook Summer: Ruffled Fabric

I absolutely love this layout that Taylor did for Scrapbook Summer. I love the idea of a ruffled fabric border, Don’t you? Here’s how to do it!
Supplies:
Paper, Picture, Fabric Scraps, Sewing Machine, Pins, Misc Embellishments.
1.  Take your fabric scraps and sew them into a strip.
2. Pleat your strip using pins to hold it in place as you sew along one edge.
3. Either sew or glue your ruffled fabric to you layout. Or another fun way to attach it would be brads! I think that would be cute! 🙂

Using Puffy Paint on you layout- Scrapbook Summer

Nope, Puffy Paints aren’t just for little kids. They are super fun to squeeze out onto your layout for extra dimension! There are so many different things you could do with puffy paints!
Supplies:
Paper, Pictures, Misc Embellishments, Puffy Paint
(I made my own puffy paint- there are alot of tutorials on the Internet- just google!)
1. I used a really patterned piece of paper and then added puffy paint to some of the patterns. However you could use a plain piece of paper and then paint out your own patterns!
This owl was paint onto the paper, so I just went over part of it with puffy paint and see how neat it looks.. ?
I did the same thing with the outline of the heart, and I painted little puffy dots going in a circle too.
If your layout warps while the paint is drying, Just put it under a couple of books- It will flatten out. 😉

Scrapbook Summer- Make a Torn Paper Rainbow

For today’s scrapbook summer post, Here’s a little DIY for making a torn paper rainbow.
Supplies: Papers in Red, Blue, Yellow, etc. (rainbow colors)
1. Tear your paper into 1″ strips. You probably only need one strip for each color depending on how large you make your rainbow.
2. Tear your strips into smaller pieces and Arrange them into a curved shape- layering the colors.
3. Add to your layout!!
The quote on my layout says “There’s always a rainbow after a rainy day” I also drew in some raindrops using a couple of sharpies from my awesome sharpie collection. 😉

Scrapbook Summer- Playing with words

Instead of using regular letter stickers or chipboard letters for your title, why not try using your own handwriting!
This is a really fun technique that Taylor came up with, and then I did the layout. So it was a joint project. 😉 enjoy—
Supplies:
Paper, Pictures, Scissors, Misc Embellishments, Colored Pencils, Chipboard Letters, Sharpie Pen
1. On a sheet of paper, lightly write out your title by tracing around chipboard letters.
2. Journal on top of this with a colored pencil.
3. Using your sharpie/pen go over your journals- Only inside your title.
4. Add your picture and embellish your page! I used some paper scraps the I cut into swirls and added a few rub-ons too!

*Scrapbook Summer* Use yarn on your layout

In case you haven’t noticed from some of the previous scrapbook summer posts- I love adding texture to my layouts! A fun way to do that is to add some yarn..
Supplies:
Paper, Pictures, Misc Embellishments, Yarn, Hot Glue Gun or Needle and Thread.
You can either hot glue the yarn on or use a needle and thread to sew it on (But I don’t have the patience to do that)
1. Begin by wrapping your yarn around your pictures as a frame
Just keep going around and around until it gets the size you want it.
I connected all of my pictures together.
Try doing “scallops” with the yarn..
I used yarn to frame my pictures on that layout but you can add yarn in other ways too- Like I did on this layout by actually writing my title out in yarn!

Scrapbook Summer- Adding Texture with Salt

Want to learn how to add some lovely texture to your chipboard letters? Try using Salt and paint mixed together! Here’s how:
Supplies: Paper, Pictures, Chipboard Letters, Salt, Acrylic Paint, Paintbrush, Misc Embellishments
1. On either a palette or a scrap of paper squirt out some paint and pour salt into it. I don’t have measurements for how much salt- just until it gets nice & gritty.
2. Paint onto your chipboard letters. You don’t have to cover them all- Taylor just painted stripes onto them.
3. Lay out your page how you want.
4. Decorate your layout using your chipboard letters and some fun embellishments!
I think this would be an amazing technique for a summer page- Don’t you think the texture looks a little bit like a sandy beach? I love it!

Scrapbook Summer.. Machine Sewing

I love sewing on my layouts- It adds so much texture! But I don’t have the patience to sew by hand, Which is why I like to use my sewing machine.. 🙂
Supplies:
Paper, Pictures, Misc Embellishments, Sewing Machine
1. Try sewing on your picture instead of gluing it.
2. Sewing lines in a fun sunburst type shape is one of my favorite things to do at the moment.
Start by doing a few lines in 1 color.
3. and then just keep adding more colors until you get the look you want!
Be sure to add some pretty embellishments! 🙂

Scrapbook Summer- Using Journaling Tags as Embellishments

Remember the layout I did for the design team? Well, I’ve got a little DIY using it on how to use journaling tags as embellishments! You can make your own (I did mine using the cricut) or use some premade journaling spots. Here are a few cute one’s I’ve seen on the Internet- Basic Grey, K&Co
Supplies:
Journaling Tags, Paper, Pictures, Misc Embellishments
1. Choose your journaling tags.
2. Arrange them on your layout- not as a spot for journaling, but as embellishments.
I layered them behind my photo.
3. embellish!

Scrapbook Summer- guest post from Heather!

Hi, fellow scrapbookers!! I am so excited to get to guest blog for Punk Projects! Just a little info about me, I am a teenage scrapper, like Katie, and I love making cards as well as making layouts. If you’re like me, you love finding new ways to make your own flowers! Today, I’ll be sharing with you a tutorial about making a dimensional fabric flower. It’s easy peasy lemon squeezy. 🙂
 What you’ll need:
– a hot glue gun and glue sticks
– 6 diecutted fabric circles or scalloped circles (mine are about 2 inches in diameter)
– 1 smaller circle of either fabric or paper
– an embellishment for the center of your flower

Step #1: Dab a dot of hot glue in the center of one of your fabric circles.

Step #2: Pinch the fabric in the center on the back while the glue is still pliable. Hold in place till the glue has hardened (you might want to switch from hand to hand because the glue can get pretty hot!).

Step #3: Glue the pinched “triangle” to where the point is pointing to the center of the circle.

Step #4: Repeat step 3 for all 6 fabric pieces, gluing them until you have completed a flower.

Step #5: Glue an embellishment of your choice in the center of the flower to top it off.

Your flower should now look like this:

And here’s a layout I did with this flower. I love the dimension these flowers give to a page!

I hope this little tutorial will inspire you to create some beautiful flowers for your next layout! Come visit me at my blog (http://craftyscrapbooker.blogspot.com/) sometime!
