If you’re new here, I post recycled Pirouline tin crafts every month! You can find them all here.

It’s time for another printable, these are so fun to make, not to mention they’re so quick and easy!! So, right now I am obsessed with sloths, they’re become pretty trendy lately, like foxes and hedgehogs.
I designed these little love sloths for Valentine’s day!
Supplies:
  • Printer
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Black Felt (optional)

Download my free printables here:
Pink Sloth
Purple Sloth

1. Print out the design.
2. Cut out the design.
3. Wrap around the tin and use tape to secure the ends on the back.

I designed two options: The pink sloth has the arms already drawn on, and the purple sloth allows you to adhere on felt arms for a 3d element.

DIY Valentines Pet Mini Album

If you’re new here, I post a recycled Pirouline tin craft every month! You can find them all here.

This is actually a second recycled Pirouline project for the month of February. There are just so many possibilities for Valentines projects, which is why I made this mini album!

This past weekend I got 2 new baby guinea pigs, 2 girls that I named Milky Way and Mars and they are both sooo adorable that I had to scrapbook them. I thought it would be fun to make a “Valentines” themed album, featuring my furry friends!

Supplies:
  • 2 Pirouline Tin Lids
  • 1″ Binder Ring
  • Awl
  • 3.5″ Circle Template
  • Glitter Washi Tape
  • Twine
  • Adhesive
  • Scrapbooking Paper and Embellishments

The Pirouline tin lids make the covers of the mini album, with one facing up and one facing down.

1. Start by punching a hole into the tops of both of your lids.

2. Next decorate your covers. This could be done SO many different ways. I covered the tops with glitter washi tape and then adhered twine around the sides of the lids.

3. Cut scrapbooking papers down to fit the inside of your lids. I use my die cut machine (Brother ScanNCut) to cut 3.5″ circles, but you could also print out and cut out a circle template to use.

4. Adhere your photos onto the backsides of the paper circles and punch holes in the tops. Feel free to add stickers and embellishments.

5. Bind everything together with a binder ring.

I printed our some photos in color and some in black and white. Here are my pages:

What is something you have made a mini album out of? Cookie Tins?

DIY Geometric Heart Wooden Box

I’ve got another fun Valentine project for you guys today. I created this heart box for DecoArt, and I know you guys are going to love it!
I shared this trick a couple of years ago, making faux 3D hearts and so I did it again, only this time I used paint to create an optical illusion 3D heart on top of this box. If you look at it straight from the top, it looks 3D! But it’s actually just painted on.
Here’s how you can make this little box to hold your favorite photos of loved ones:
SUPPLIES
  • Medium Wooden Box (I used one a recipe box by Walnut Hollow)
  • Gloss Decou-Page
  • Americana® Multi-Surface Acrylics in

  • Black Tie
  • Cotton Ball
  • Gold (Metallic)
  • Pink Tropics

  • Glamour Dust™ Sprinkle-On Glitter Gold
  • water container
  • palette or plastic plate
  • paper towels
  • transfer paper
  • pencil

Here is my heart pattern. Just right click the picture to save it and print it out.

1. Print off and cut out the heart pattern. Using a pencil and the transfer paper, transfer the heart onto the top of the box.

2. Use a 1″ flat brush and Gold (Metallic) to paint the box. (Leave the heart and lid edge unpainted.)

3. Use a #4 round brush and Pink Tropics to paint the inside of the heart as well as the sides of the lid.

4. Create five mixes: (1) part Pink Tropics with (2) parts Cotton Ball; (1) part Pink Tropics with (1) part Cotton Ball; (1) part Pink Tropics with (1) part Black Tie; (1) part Pink Tropics with (2) parts Black Tie; and (1) part Pink Tropics with (3) parts Black Tie.

5. Paint in the heart with a #4 round brush. Paint the lightest color mix onto the left side of the heart. Paint the darker mixes onto the right side. (Refer to the final photo for color placement.)

6. Being careful to stay outside of the heart, brush the lid with Americana Gloss Decou-Page and sprinkle Gold Glamour Dust on top while it is still wet.

7. Brush off any excess glitter and apply another coat of Decou-Page on top of the Glamour Dust for extra hold.

8. Open the box and paint the inside edges with Pink Tropics.

9. Print photos at 3″ x 5″ (or the appropriate size for the box). Mat them with pink cardstock paper and add washi tape tabs.

10. Place the photos inside of the box.

There you have it! I’m so pleased with how this little box came out, and I love how it holds special pictures!

What color would you paint the heart? You’re not limited to just pink!

DIY “Carved Tree” Pirouline Tin

If you’re new here, I post a recycled Pirouline tin craft every month! You can find them all here.
I am super pleased with how this months recycled Pirouline tin project turned out! I used a bit of air dry clay + paint to turn an empty tin into this “carved tree”. It even includes a lid so that you can store stuff in it!
It is perfect for Valentines, and yet at the same time it doesn’t have to be for Valentines at all! For example, I “carved” my own initials into it…

Here’s how I made it!

Supplies: Empty Pirouline Tin, Sand Paper, Air Dry Clay (I used some Model Air clay by Polyform), Gold Spray Paint (I used Champagne Nouveau by Krylon), Pink or Red Acrylic Paint, Brown Acrylic Paint, Paintbrush.

This is the clay that I’ve had the best luck with-

1. Start by sanding your pirouline tin. This roughs it up and gives it texture so that the air dry clay sticks to it better. Be sure to sand the lid as well.

2. Take a piece of clay and use your fingers to smoosh it and wrap it around your tin, working it and smoothing it until you have your tin covered.

The trick is to not make it too thin (it will crack) but not too thick either.
You want to cover your lid as well. I rolled out a piece of clay and placed it over my tin and then smoothed it around the curved edges of the lid and trimmed off the extra clay.

3. Next you need to take something with a pointy edge (I actually used an old clay sculpting tool I had) like a tooth pick and “carve” your tree.

Start by drawing a heart and your initials into your clay and then drawing woodgrain lines around it. I also added “wood knots” and more wood grain patterns around the backside of the tin.

Make sure to do this step while the clay is still soft, before it drys.

4. Repeat step 3 with the lid, only carving a swirl or circles as if it were the end of a stump.

5. Set your clay outside or somewhere it won’t get disturbed and let it dry.

6. Once dry, Give your tree a coat of spray paint and let that dry.

7. Take a pink (or any other color) acrylic paint and a tiny paint brush and paint inside your carved lines where your heart and initials are.
You want to paint just inside the “ditch” here, which is where you drew in the clay.

8. Repeat step 7 with a brown paint and going inside the lines of your woodgrain pattern.

I actually used a brown wax paint (The wax paint is meant to go over chalk paint), because I liked that it was sort of creamy, but to achieve the same look with acrylic paint, just water it down a tiny bit before painting the woodgrain.

Let your paint dry completely.

Would you use this as a Valentines project or just make it for yourself like I did? 😉

Glitter and Lace Valentines Pirouline Tins

I’ve really been wanting to cover a couple of Pirouline tins in glitter- Lots of glitter! I decided that it would be perfect as a Valentines themed project!
I love using glitter but if you don’t use it much, here are our top 6 tips for working with glitter.

Supplies: Pirouline Tins, Spray Adhesive,Glitter in multiple colors, Gloss/Acrylic Coating Spray OR Mod Podge, Lace Trim, Hot Glue

1. If they aren’t already, Empty out your pirouline tins.  Spray the outside of your tin with spray adhesive, I recommend doing this outside. (You can use another type of adhesive if you want, I find that spray is easiest.)
2. Sprinkle glitter over your tin. I went for an ombre look on one, and gold + silver on the other. Shake off the excess glitter onto a piece of scrap paper and use it to pour the glitter back into your glitter container.
3. To seal your glitter and to keep it from coming off at the touch, Go over it with either a coat of mod podge, or a spray acrylic coating. Let that dry!
4. Cut a piece of lace to fit around your tin. Use hot glue to glue one end down at the back of the tin, wrap your lace around and glue down the other end.

Pirouline tins are so much fun to restyle, there are so many different things you can do with an empty tin. (Not to mention the cookies inside!)

Faux 3D Hearts DIY

Like most people, I spend a lot of time on pinterest looking at craft ideas, geekery, cute puppies, etc. I was browsing the DIY board on pinterest when I came across these Wooden Gems by Fabric Paper Glue. I thought it was so neat that they looked real so I really wanted to give them a try!

Since Valentines is in a couple of days, I decided to make heart shaped gems but I didn’t have any small wooden hearts so I actually used foam board instead, which worked out pretty well.

Supplies: Foam Board, Scissors, Acrylic Paint in main color + white and black paint, Gold Paint Pen, Mod Podge Gloss

1. Sketch out your heart(s) onto a scrap of foam board. Mine are about 1.5″ wide.

2. Cut them out. You can use scissors or a craft knife, whichever works better for you.

3. Use your pencil to lightly sketch out where to paint. I sketched a smaller heart on the inside of my heart and then drew lines going outward where the corners are.

4. Paint the center of your heart with your main color.

5. Mix a bit of white paint with your main color and paint one side, mixing in more white as you paint the different sections.
Mix a TINY bit of black paint with the main color and repeat the last step on the opposite side of your heart.

Fabric Paper Glue has a really good tutorial for showing how to mix the paints here.

6. Use a gold paint pen to gild the edges of your heart.

7. Go over your hearts with a coat of Mod Podge. I used the gloss version, but I think some Dimensional Magic would look really cool on these.

I love how these look 3d, but as you can see in the last picture they are completely flat. It’s just an optical illusion made with the different colors!

I used mine as embellishments on a couple of cute, easy cards. Some patterned paper, vellum, stamping and doodling and they’re done!

For my project I decided to make a fun Valentines themed tag mini album. I’m not huge into Valentines day, but I wanted to make this a “Reasons I love you” album about my family.
I used these stamp sets: Vintage Lace, Flowers of Life, Top 10 List, Sunburst, Snapshot Framer, Carved Love, and the Vintage Creative New Year Clip Art Sheet.
I love the big heart stamp in the Carved Love stamp set. I stamped multiple hearts and colored them in using some Prisma Markers, blending together the colors to have a shaded heart.
For the opposite side of my tags, I added pictures of my family and used the Top 10 List stamp to write out things I love about them.

Valentines Candy Cozy DIY

Valentines is just over 1 week away! I stitched up this little heart candy cozy. With it’s smiling face, it couldn’t get any more adorable!

I also made a little tutorial in case you wanted to make your own:

Supplies: Red and White Felt, 2 Black Buttons, Red Ribbon, Embroider Thread, Needle, Sewing Machine (optional), Candy

 1. Draw a 5″ wide heart onto the back of your red felt, and cut out 2 hearts.

2. Using your buttons as a guide, cut out 2 circles or ovals from the white felt that is just slightly larger than your buttons.
Place the buttons on top of your felt circles and stitch down on to the front red heart.

3. Cut about a 12″ piece of embroider thread and use it to stitch a smile between and just a little lower than the 2 eyes.

4. You can also use your embroidery thread to give your heart eyelashes, which makes it look more girly.

5. Cut a 10″ piece of ribbon. Place the ends on the back side of the heart and use embroidery thread to secure it with small X stitches.

6. Place your front heart on to the 2nd heart (the back piece) and stitch along the sides and bottom, making sure to leave the top open. I used the sewing machine for this step, but you could continue to use the embroidery thread.

I love putting faces on things. I think it makes them 10x cuter.
