A Mark Making Art Journal Zine

I had so much fun working on this zine! It’s full of bright, happy colors, and fun, abstract marks.
As you might know, I’m a member of the Zine Squad. We make collaborative zines for and around people and subjects that inspire us!  I love doing these- It’s fun to have a miniature art journal done in one theme. You can see all the past zines I’ve collaborated on here.

This time the zine squad (Julia, Vanessa, and I) collaborated with Molly for a “Mark Making” themed zine for Divyam!

Above is the cover and below are the pages I worked on in the zine.

I did the “Make your mark” page on the right. I love this creative word washi tape, and I brushed on some watercolor brushstrokes.

My double page spread above, and my little take on Starry Night. Because if I’m doing a zine on mark making, there has to be something about Van Gogh, right?

I did some zentangles & a mini galaxy above.

I also did the end page next to the sign off, so I wanted to draw a mini portrait of Divyam in her happy cartoon style. I made the background with a bunch of simple marker strokes using Tombow Dual Brush Pens.

I’m only sharing the pages I worked on here, so I highly encourage you guys to go visit the other contributors (linked at the top of this post) and see the rest of this beautiful zine!

A Crystal Art Journal Zine

Today’s post rocks. 😉  As you might know, I’m a member of the Zine Squad. We make collaborative zines for and around people and subjects that inspire us!  I love doing these- It’s fun to have a miniature art journal done in one theme. You can see all the past zines I’ve collaborated on here.

This time the zine squad (Julia, Vanessa, and I) collaborated with Becka for a Crystal themed zine for Elly!

I started the zine, so I painted the crystal on the cover above, and then someone else added the title. 🙂

My page on the right above. I also painted the bottom triangle on the left, and I love the other triangles that Vanessa added. Oh, I also added the washi tape tabs, because I had these shiny tapes that I just had to use!

My double page spread, the flap opens up!

For my page on the right above, I used Prima Metallic Watercolors for the crystals, so they shimmer like crazy in the right lighting!

And the last sign off page above. I added the little owl sticker, which it and the crystal ball sticker I added on my double page spread are both by Gracemere Woods, and while neither are necessarily crystals I thought they fit nicely. 🙂

I’m only sharing the pages I worked on here, so I highly encourage you guys to go visit everyone’s blogs and see the rest of this beautiful zine!

A Fungi Art Journal Zine

Ooooh, aren’t you a fun-guy? 😉 Today’s post is a fun one! As you might know, I’m a member of the Zine Squad. We make collaborative zines for and around people and subjects that inspire us!  I love doing these- It’s fun to have a miniature art journal done in one theme. You can see all the past zines I’ve collaborated on here.

This time the zine squad (Julia, Vanessa, and I) collaborated with Alicia for a Fungi themed zine for Moriah!

Living in the pacific-northwest, I have come to know a good bit about mushroom in the past few years, so I had a lot of fun with this zine. Fun fact: I was actually actually a member of the Puget Sound Mycological Society last year. And I don’t even eat mushrooms. (My Dad does, and I go foraging with him.)
I started the zine this time around, so I wanted to share what the zine looked like when it left my hands, and then what it looks like completed.

When the zine left me:

And the completed zine:

I love the echo lines that Jules (?) added around my mushroom fairy.
I’m only sharing the pages I worked on here, so I highly encourage you guys to go visit everyone’s blogs and see the rest of the zine!

A Kindness Art Journal Zine

It’s been a while since we’ve had a zine to share with y’all, so I’m happy to be posting this today!
As you might know, I’m a member of the Zine Squad. We make collaborative zines for and around people and subjects that inspire us!  I love doing these- It’s fun to have a miniature art journal done in one theme. You can see all the past zines I’ve collaborated on here.
This time the zine squad (Julia, Vanessa, and I) collaborated with Serena for a Kindness themed zine for Molly! This was a really sweet one to put together, and this zine got to Molly at such a perfect time to cheer her up.
The cover above was a collaborative effort. I added a lot of the white collage, and then stenciled the heart hands on top. Below are the pages I created in the zine.

The girl on the right below is mine. The rest of the spread is by my fellow ziners!

Left page below is mine, I used a photo I took on a beach trip.

I love collaborating on art journals like this! I highly encourage you guys to go visit their blogs (linked at the top) and see the rest of the zine, because the rest of the pages are amazing!

A Cityscape Art Journal Zine

I’m a member of the Zine Squad, We make collaborative zines for and around people and subjects that inspire us!  I love doing these- It’s fun to have a miniature art journal done in one theme. You can see all the past zines I’ve collaborated on here.

This time the zine squad (Julia, Vanessa and I) collaborated with Kelli for a Cityscape themed zine! I thought the theme for this one was really neat!
The fun multi colored firework stamps were already on the left page above, I added the hand/cityscape to it.

I added the map flap into this journal, and used some of my stamp stash I’ve collected on it.

My page on the opposite side of the flap. The circles are actually foil, although it’s hard to take a photo of.

My galaxy page on the left. I add a galaxy into nearly every collab I do.

I love collaborating on art journals like this! I highly encourage you guys to go visit their blogs and see the rest of the zine, because the rest of the pages are amazing!

An Elements Art Journal Zine

I’m a member of the Zine Squad, We make collaborative zines for and around people and subjects that inspire us!  I love doing these- It’s fun to have a miniature art journal done in one theme. You can see all the past zines I’ve collaborated on here.

This time the zine squad (Julia, Vanessa and I) collaborated with Divyam for an Elements themed zine! I love how this one turned out.

The cover. I added the ferns, and a few of the swirly flames.

My page spread with my fire girl.I tried to make her look like she is a glowing ember. Think it worked?

I added the image & the art on the right page flap above. I think the rest of the page is by Vanessa.

I loved Jules Pocahontas page on the right, so I used more of the lyrics on my collage on the left.

The only thing I added to the page above was the round sticker by Elly Mack.

My galaxy/wave page on the left above.

I simply added a couple of crystals to Divyam’s page above on the right.

I added a mountain collage to the left page and worked on top of the gelli print on the right page.

The plant/vine is another fun sticker by Elly.

My last page + the sign off page. I really love how my Anemoi (wind gods) page turned out.

The wolf sticker I added to the sign off page is by GraceMereWoods. Apparently I was all about the stickers in this zine!

I love collaborating on art journals like this! I highly encourage you guys to go visit their blogs and see the rest of the zine, because the rest of the pages are amazing!

A Modern Poet Art Journal Zine

I’m a member of the Zine Squad, We make collaborative zines for and around people and subjects that inspire us!  I love doing these- It’s fun to have a miniature art journal done in one theme. You can see all the past zines I’ve collaborated on here.

This time the zine squad (Julia, Vanessa and I) collaborated with Tori for a Modern Poet themed zine for our friend Rebecca! This zine has a gorgeous collection of words.
The cover.

My page on the right.

While words aren’t my personal strong point, I love words, and especially a good quote, so while searching pinterest for modern poetry, I came across the saying above and it inspired my drawing.

I got the x-ray flower image out of a magazine and it fit so well next to Vanessa’s lovely black and white page on the right.

My page on the left. I did a bit of paint smooshing and “found poetry”  by combining some book text and I am in love with the results.

I love collaborating on art journals like this! I highly encourage you guys to go visit their blogs and see the rest of the zine, because the rest of the pages are amazing!

A Folklore Art Journal Zine

I’m a member of the Zine Squad, We make collaborative zines for and around people and subjects that inspire us!  I love doing these- It’s fun to have a miniature art journal done in one theme. You can see all the past zines I’ve collaborated on here.

This time the zine squad (Julia, Vanessa and I) collaborated with Stephanie on a zine for our friend Lucia.

The cover above

I added the fox and the key fabric to the page above.

My page above. with lots of doodles.

I had gotten the castle image from a calendar and knew it was perfect for this zine, so I added it in and doodled the design on the right.

My double spread above. I added one of my girl drawings to the page , and then added the black doodles around on the page, which are heavily inspired by Diana Sudyka.

I added the red doodles to the page on the left, and the right page is our sign off page.

I added the copper tape to the back cover above.

A Lovely Layers/Frida Art Journal Zine

I’m a member of the Zine Squad, We make collaborative zines for and around people and subjects that inspire us!  I love doing these- It’s fun to have a miniature art journal done in one theme. You can see all the past zines I’ve collaborated on here.

This time the zine squad (Julia, Vanessa and I) collaborated with Holly on a zine for our friend Emily. It started out as a “Lovely Layers” themed zine, but it quickly ended up with a secondary theme of Frida Kahlo, and you will see Frida showing her face on many of the zine pages.

The cover above. I added on the stamps and title.

My first page on the left (with Holly or Vanessa’s on the right?). I wanted to bring out the layers theme by layering multiple neutral colored papers and ephemera.
I wanted to add a little more depth to the page, so I grabbed a ruler and drew on all of those lines. 🙂

Vanessa created the page on the left, and the page on the right already had a few strip of washi tape on it when it got to me, however I added more layers of tape to it, as well as the quote and the watercolors on the flap.

Julia’s page above, however I added that vellum circle to the right.

Holly’s page on the left, and my page on the right. I copied a painting of Frida I did in my sketchbook because I knew she would be right at home here in this zine. The background is made up of high flow acrylics and washi tape.

My last page in the zine and our sign off page. I have to have a galaxy page!! 😉

Being the last person to have the zine is always the best, in my opinion because it means I get to see (and alter) everyone’s pages!
I added multiple page tabs to the tops of the pages, and cut out circles from the pages as well.

Why did I chop up everyone’s pages? While I did feel the slightest bit bad at cutting holes in their art, this is a “layers” themed zine and I loved the look of being able to see through the circles and into the next pages.

I love collaborating on art journals like this! I highly encourage you guys to go visit their blogs and see the rest of the zine, because the rest of the pages are amazing!

A Circle Art Journal Zine

I was on vacation for a few weeks back in May, so it’s been quite a while since we shared any zines!  This time the zine squad (Julia, Vanessa and I) collaborated with Ashley for a Circle themed zine for our friend Clare.

The Cover above.

My page to the right above. Ashley drew the mandala to the left and I wanted to compliment it.

I’m not sure who painted the circles onto this page, but I doodled the white shapes on top of them.

My lion page to the right. How could you have a circle zine without the Lion King in there?

My space-y page above.

The sign off page with names. All I contributed to this one was my name. ha. but Jules created and amazing background!

I love collaborating on art journals like this! I highly encourage you guys to go visit their blogs and see the rest of the zine, because the rest of the pages are amazing!
